Pewamo-Westphalia senior Luke Paxton reached a major milestone on Saturday at the Durand Invitational, capturing the 157-lb championship and earning his 100th career victory. Paxton’s title match was a hard-fought battle that went the full three rounds, ending in a decisive 16–7 major decision. In addition to the championship, Paxton was recognized for his performance by earning the Upper Class Most Outstanding Wrestler Award, capping off an exceptional day on the mat.

In 2024, Luke became the first P-W wrestler to compete at the State Tournament since 1973, and last season he finished 4th place All-State in the 138lb weight class. Luke was also recognized as a 2025 Character & Leadership All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. This prestigious honor recognizes juniors and seniors who exemplify the core values of Dependability, Judgment, Endurance, Initiative, Tact, Integrity, Unselfishness, Loyalty, and Courage. Only 1,136 student-athletes nationwide receive this distinction.

In addition to his success on the mat, Paxton was a unanimous First Team All-State linebacker for the Pirate football team this fall and earned Academic All-State honors in the classroom.
